Police begins operation leading up to the independence day celebrations tomorrow.

The celebrations will start this Sunday.

Acting Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga told local journalists today, the operation will run through next week as the country is hosting two international events.

Along with the Independence Day celebrations, the country will also host the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting and the Pacific Health Ministers Conference next week.

The Acting Police Commissioner confirms police operation will ensure security for the upcoming events.

“In relation to security arrangements for the upcoming events, as you all know that there will be the 36 years of Independence celebrations, the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting and the Pacific Health Ministers Conference that will start on 8th July. However police will start its Independence operations tomorrow on the 4th, and then followed by the operations for the two international conferences that will be hosted in the country.”

She adds, more than 2-hundred police officers will be deployed as part of the safety operation.
