POLICE COMMENDED FOR ENSURING PEACEFUL FESTIVE SEASON

Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Maelanga has commended the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) for ensuring a safe and peaceful Solomon Islands throughout the festive season.

A Government statement said the commendation came after the Commissioner of Police, Frank Prendergast informed the Acting Prime Minister that Police operations during the festive season went well.

Mr Prendergast met with Hon. Maelanga as part of the weekly national security briefing by the Police Commissioner for the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga said the Commissioner of Police and the RSIPF deserves commendation for the successful police operations during the festive season.

He said the continued display of professionalism in the discharge of duties is a bold reassurance that RSIPF is ready to take on the leadership role over the country’s policing and national security affairs when the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) leaves in June.

The Acting Prime Minister also thanked all Solomon Islanders and foreign nationals for celebrating the Christmas and New Year 2017 in the true spirit of peace and goodwill.

He added such goodwill and maturity should be maintained all year round, urging all Solomon Islanders to make this a resolution for this year.
