Police make first arrest in Easter double murder

The Royal Solomon Islands Police have late this afternoon arrested one of the two main suspects of the brutal Easter homicide.

Police Media confirmed the first arrest to SIBC News this afternoon (Monday).

It said community leaders and family members helped persuade the 21-year-old suspect to surrendered to the the Deputy Police Commissioner, Gabriel Manelusi this afternoon.

It said the arrest was made at Baegu, Malaita Province.

“This negotiated surrender and arrest was made possible through the assistance of the Adatolo community, including church leaders and the relatives of the alleged offender. I thank them for their support and understanding,” Deputy Commissioner Manelusi said

The suspect was transported by helicopter to Rove, Honiara, just before 5pm this afternoon.

Police Media said the second suspect was still in hiding.
