Proper water and sanitation for flash flood victims is a major challenge for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

Under Secretary for Health Improvement, Dr Tenneth Dalipanda confirms this during a Media Promotion Forum yesterday.

Dr Dalipanda says the destruction of basic infrastructure following the recent flash flooding becomes the main contributing factor to poor water and sanitation in affected areas.

“As the Ministry of Health our space is in health, we also have a water and sanitation issue, they are the main challenges that we have. As you all know that sanitation and water in this city has been a challenge for quite a lot of years, and a destruction of the basic infrastructure that we have actually tipped the balance.”

Dr Dalipanda adds, the Water Sanitation and Hygiene cluster is assessing evacuation centres to ensure proper water and sanitation for victims.

Dr Dalipanda emphasized, proper water and sanitation are important to prevent an outbreak of water related diseases in evacuation centres.
