Biometric Voter Registration Officers and venue owners in North Malaita, Malaita Province have refused to return registration equipment after the Electoral Commission failed to settle their outstanding payments.
SIBC stringer John Andrew Kiri reports, registration officers and venue owners already took off with various registration equipment and facilities and are holding on to them.
Mr Kiri reports, the two groups will only release the equipment if the government pays up their outstanding dues.
“The two frustrated and angry groups have decided to hold up the logistical facilities like generators, computer, data machines, form B’s, flash drive data or memory and even the working equipment of the registration. They said unless the bosses settle their outstanding payments, they will hold onto the registration equipment.”
SIBC News understands voter registration for most constituencies have closed last Friday while those affected by the recent flash flood will close early next month.
