At the invitation of the Government of Solomon Islands, the Republic of China, Taiwan, Navy Midshipmen Cruising Training Squadron will be arriving in Honiara this weekend.

The Squadron consists of three vessels, with 789 Navy officers, sailors and midshipmen onboard.

The Taiwanese Embassy in Honiara says, the Squadron is carrying 150 hospital beds and 50 tons of rice as part of ROC Government’s relief efforts to help local floods-affected population.

Taiwan Ambassador His Excellency Victor T. S. Yu says the visit highlights the goodwill and friendship from Taiwan towards Solomon Islands.

His Excellency Yu says, this time-honored spirit of brotherhood between the Taiwan and Solomon Islands proves to be the strong foundation for the longstanding and close relationship between the two countries.

Led by Commander Rear Admiral Tung Fang Li, the goodwill visit will be arriving in Honiara on Sunday morning, April 27th for three-day.

The Squadron’s flagship, Wu-Yi, will be open for public visit on Sunday from 10:30am to 12:30pm.

The ROC Navy cadets will perform free tattoo and martial art show from 3pm at Lawson Tama stadium.

SIBC News understands, this is the twelfth such visit by Taiwan since 1984.
