Safe Boat Operation winds down with check on return trips

The Solomon Islands Maritime Safety Administration and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force continue to monitor vessels travelling from the provinces to Honiara as part of their Safe Boat Operation.

The annual operation began before the holidays and will end next week.

It is aimed at ensuring the safety of people travelling on boats and shipping vessels during and after the festive season.

Assistant Police Commissioner National Operations Charles Sau said police detained 10 boats so far during the operation.

He said after correcting issues, most boats were released on the same day they were detained or the day after.
