Solomon Islands will undertake 100 percent offloading of its tuna catch in the country in 2017.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and marine Resources, Dr. Christian Ramofafia confirmed during a ceremony to welcome the first offloading of Taiwan’ Global Fisheries Ltd tuna stock in the country over the weekend.

Dr. Ramofafia says this means the offloaded catch is expected to be processed before the product can be exported.

He adds, the government acknowledges the challenge to initiate proper supporting storage infrastructure to materialize this locally.
