Six men have been arrested in Gizo, Western Province for an armed robbery incident at a logging camp in North New Georgia.

In a media release, the Police Media Unit says the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force in Noro made the arrests and the armed robbery happened on Thursday afternoon.

Police are alleging the men carried knives and axes, entered the logging camp and demanded money, and threatened the workers at the camp.

When their demands were not met, they assaulted the Camp Manager, destroyed machines and properties at the camp and chased away the logging camp residents into the bushes.

The logging camp residents then contacted the police for assistance.

Responding to the call, police officers at Noro made arrests at Mase Village. The men were kept in custody at the Noro Police Station and will be taken to Gizo.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Police Commander for Western Province says such attitudes harms the peace and quiet people enjoy, and people with such attitude should reconsider taking the law into their own hands.
