The Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, MPGIS, has confirmed that the Biometric Voter List, BVL, produced from the Biometric Voters Registration system will be used as the voter list in upcoming provincial elections for six provinces in the country.

In a government statement today Permanent Secretary Stanley Dick Pirione says the Ministry can either use the voter list prepared under the Local Government Act, or the voter list prepared under the National Electoral Provisions Act.

He says given the amount of work put into preparing the BVL, the Ministry is confident that using the list is the best way forward for a fair and accurate provincial election cycle.

SIBC News understands, provinces which are due to have elections this year are Central Islands, Guadalcanal, Isabel, Malaita, Rennell and Bellona and Temotu provinces.
