Six Solomon Islands students in Philippines tested positive of COVID-19

Six Solomon Islands Students studying in the Philippines were tested positive of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The six were among 131 students tested as part of the country’s testing protocols before boarding the government’s proposed repatriation flight to the Philippines.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare made the announcement today in his special national address.

“I am here today with my Minister of Health and Medical Services and the Minister of Education and Human Resources Development to inform you all the 6 of the 130 students were tested on Friday 11th September was tested positive of COVID-19.” 

He says the first test results of the first group of students to be repatriated was received by the oversight committee yesterday.

The Prime Minister explains the six students are not sick but symptomatic with the virus at this stage.

The Government has planned 3 repatriation flights for the Philippine students scheduled for 27th and 29th September and 24th of October 2020.

Despite the report, Solomon Islands is still COVID-19 free.
