The Solomon Islands in Solidarity for West Papua group has thanked Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare for officially announcing that Solomon Islands will appoint a special envoy for West Papua to be deliberated in next month’s 46th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

A government statement yesterday said Solomon Islands will appoint a Special Envoy on West Papua and seek West Papua’s admission to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (SPC).

Thanking the Prime Minister on behalf of Solomon Islands in Solidarity for West Papua is Lily Chekana.

“On behalf of the Solomon Islands in Solidarity for West Papua Group, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hon. Prime Minister Manasseh Damukana Sogavare for the official announcement made from the Prime Minister’s Office for Solomon Islands to appoint a special envoy on West Papua to pursue this issue at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat meeting which will take place next month in Papua New Guinea.”
