Solomon 7s starts tomorrow

Islanders Rugby club gearing up for the 7s tournament.

The 2018 South Pacific Oil Solomon 7s is set to kick off tomorrow at the Town ground Rugby stadium in Honiara.

The tournament will start tomorrow, where pool games will start at 1PM and conclude at 4PM, and the finals will be held on Saturday.

A total of thirteen teams will be vying for the $50,000 price , where four overseas teams from Fiji, Vanuatu, and Bougainville will also be taking part,  two Samoan players will also be featuring for defending champions, Avaiki.

Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation Chief Executive officer Gerald Oiaka says the inclusion of overseas teams and players will certainly boost the development of Rugby in the country.

“Last year when the players from Koio came, the level of 7s improved,” he said.

” In terms of regional competitions, the gap is getting narrow with the big names, we went to the Mini Games and narrowly lost to Tonga, and that shows how Solomon Islands can compete when we invite oversea teams to participate.”
