Solomon Islands has one of the highest rates of children smokers in the world.

Director of Health Promotions at the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Alby Lovi says compared to other countries in the world, where only one in ten children smoke, 40 percent of children in Solomon Islands smoke.

Mr. Lovi says this is very alarming for the country.

He made the statement during the No Tobacco Day marked in Honiara recently.

SIBC News understands, the Tobacco Task Force within the Health Ministry will soon conduct a workshop with all stakeholders involved in the Tobacco legislation to implement the No Tobacco initiative.
