Town Council and Mataniko bridge roadworks finish in sight

Men at work for a little while yet.

The Town Council and Mataniko Bridge roadworks now have a finish date.

According to Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Infrastructure Development Henry Murray the current works will be finished by September.

Mr Murray said the construction of the two components would take time as it required concentrated skill.

He said the focus was now on the completion of these two elements, which would see the Mataniko Bridge extended to four lanes and significant improvement works around the Town Council roundabout.

Work at the bridge

The roadworkers have moved onto the roundabout and bridge area after finishing roadworks around the Central Market area.

The pedestrian bridge and new bus lanes created by the Japanese Government-funded team have already made a significant impact on traffic in the capital, with road users taking to social media to express their gratitude.
