Traditional knowledge, together with modern technologies can provide accurate and relevant weather forecast to local settings, says the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service.

Director, David Hiriasia also told SIBC News, combining traditional knowledge and modern equipment reduces errors in weather forecast readings.

Mr Hiriasia adds traditional knowledge will enable people to understand climate forecast.

“Putting these two together you are reducing errors of forecasting there, so I think this is a good way forward in doing climate forecasts and also people will easily understand it.”

The MET Services Director also said an example of predicting the weather using traditional knowledge is using frigate birds for weather forecast.
