A tropical disturbance alert is in effect for all provinces.

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service issued the first tropical disturbance alert this morning. It updated the warning at 4pm after a tropical low was located southwest of Rennell in the northeastern Coral Sea.

According to the meteorological service, the low is moving south at about 11 knots. It is expected to take a more south-southwestward track in the next 24 hours and could develop further in that time.

Winds of 15 to 25 knots with moderate to rough seas are expected in most provinces, and winds increasing to 30 knots are predicted over southern waters with rough seas and moderate west to northwest swells.

Heavy rain and squally thunderstorms are also expected.

People are advised to take precautions as bad weather associated with the tropical low can pose threats to lives and property.

The next update will be issued at 1am tomorrow.
