Twenty newly graduated Solomon Islands doctors from Cuba are expected to arrive in the country this week.

The Ministry of Education sector’s secretary Audrey Rusa says four doctors will arrive today, nine tomorrow and seven on Wednesday.

Mrs Rusa says the doctors had graduated towards the end of July this year but were not able to return sooner due to unavailability of flights.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Dr Lester Ross says officials from the Ministries of Health and Education will be welcoming the new doctors after their arrival.

Dr Ross says the doctors will take a short break before starting their two year residency programme.

SIBC News understands, Choiseul Province has been without a doctor for a number of years now.
