‘Well done Guadalcanal’: PM praises on provincial day

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has conveyed his congratulatory message to the government and people of Guadalcanal Province on their 33rd Second Appointed Day.

Speaking during celebrations at Lela Beach this morning, Mr Sogavare congratulated Guadalcanal Province for its 33 years of self-government.

In his speech Prime Minister Sogavare said the anniversary had been annually commemorated to mark Guadalcanal as a province.

He said today was also about reflecting on strengths and challenges in order to chart the best direction for our people’s wellbeing going forward.

Mr Sogavare said being an integral part of Solomon Islands, Guadalcanal Province has over the years contributed significantly to the country’s development through its natural and human resources.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said Guadalcanal could be best described as the gateway to Solomon Islands at it hosts the nation’s capital and some of its major economic and social development activities.

He said the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government remained committed to working closely with the Guadalcanal Premier and his executive to pursue the development aspirations of Guadalcanal Province.
