Six cows have died of hunger at a cattle project in West Kwaio, Malaita Province.

A worker confirmed the six cows are from the Gono Kukufo Cattle Project in West Kwaio, Malaita Province.

Spokesperson for the cattle project workers, Tony Uania said the Government could not complete the Cattle Project, and the six cows died of hunger and neglect.

“Until today since they arrived, six animals have died as a result of hunger. No water system or stockyard in place. A house should be ready before the cattle arrived.  It’s a bit ridiculous because this is a major government project and a nationwide project. In terms of us the workers only some of us were paid while others are still waiting”.

The cattle project workers said the National Government should urgently address the cattle project issues, before it loses more money.

“We call on the government to do this and not wait, because it’s very urgent, as the cattle needs feed to survive. The six animals that died, according to my estimation a hundred thousand dollars has been lost”, he said.
