The Liberation Movement for West Papua believes Melanesians in West Papua have the right to be part of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.

Jacob Rumbiak, an Executive member of the Liberation Movement made the statement in a nationwide appeal through the national broadcaster this morning.

Mr Rumbiak says no outsider including Indonesia must be allowed to dictate the future of West Papuans.

“And no one outside of Melanesia can dictate a Melanesian leader and a decision made to West Papua can only be done through the MSG and I hope my Melanesian Leaders will stand on the Melanesia dignity, sovereignty and liberty. No one outside Melanesia, even Indonesia cannot dictate you, my Melanesian leaders. Please accept us my Melanesian leaders of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia and Vanuatu.”

Meanwhile, the Jacob Rumbiak says the Liberation Movement for West Papua is appealing for full membership with Melanesian Spearhead Group.

Mr Rumbiak explains, last July, MSG had asked that West Papua to sort itself internally before full membership is considered.

He says last December, the Vanuatu Government facilitated a major reconciliation for West Papuans and that they have met all the requirements the MSG had set for them.
