An additional $4.5 million has been passed in the Western Provincial Assembly during its meeting last week.

The supplementary is to cover costs and services up until the next budget session is due next March.

Radio Hapi Lagun’s Sina Adrian reports, the Provincial Financial Minister, Lestor Saomasi presented the estimates at the full Assembly meeting last Thursday.

Minister Saomasi says continuity of services as well as sums to cover up added costs necessitate the supplementary estimates.

He told the full Assembly meeting- the supplementary estimate also cover certain activities when the Alliance For Rural Reform
government of Premier Kuve started carrying out its policy directives, programs and activities during the past months.

He explained, a sum of $1.6 million will cater for activities overlooked under the 2014-15 budget.

Mr Saomasi adds, domestic travel has eaten much of the expenditure when the new government began its program and activity.

The Minister mentioned that the $4.5 million supplementary estimate will be collected from several traditional revenue source such as Ports Authority property rates of $2.6 million and $0.6 million will be from business licenses.

Mr Saomasi told the Assembly the MPA’s Ward grants have also increased.
