World Health Organisation, WHO disease detectives are currently in Solomon Islands.

This comes after the National Government declared Honiara and the rest of Guadalcanal province as disaster zones early this month.

In a WHO statement today, Representative, Audrey Aumua says the medical team is currently collaborating with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to provide necessary health support.

Mrs Aumua says this includes strengthening surveillance to rapidly detect disease outbreak and other potential health risks related to water and food contamination.

SIBC News understands WHO and the MHMS are currently leading the health response effort in the country.
