The Member of Parliament for Small Malaita, Rick Hou says hosting the Yam Cultural Festival in Small Malaita is anticipated to unite people to the gathering.
Mr. Hou told SIBC’s Moddie Nanau in an interview this week.
“We see it as culture has a uniting factor, in fact, it will be the first for all of us here when everyone will come especially when all tribes in and around Small Malaita will be here for the next four days.”
He also explained why hosting the Yam Cultural Festival is vital.
“You can offer the yam to chiefs and this makes people revolve around the planting and harvesting of yam in Small Malaita. The crop is like the lifestyle of the Small Malaita people and this is how the name of the festival came about – Yam Cultural Festival.”
SIBC will bring live coverage of the Small Malaita Yam Cultural Festival as it officially starts tomorrow.
