28 DAYS TO GO: Count Down for National Secondary School games continue

28 more days are left until the second edition of the Solomon Islands Secondary School Games (SISSG) kicks off in Honiara.

SISSG Chairman and Deputy Secretary (Technical) in the Minister of Home Affairs, Walter Diamana said the School Games is a national multi-sport event designed to foster youth development, promote sporting excellence, and enhance unity among students across the country.

“We will be hosting the Solomon Islands Secondary School Games here in Honiara from June 29th to July 4th this year. 

“My committee was established to plan, organize, and manage the upcoming Solomon Islands Secondary School Games. 

“It is an event aligned with our Government’s National Sports and Recreational Policy, and one that promotes our vision to enable sports as an Industry, encouraging our children and youths to access opportunities for high performance and career paths, alongside their educational journey,” Diamana said.

This year’s games will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, with the support of the following: the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, the National Sports Council, Honiara City Council, and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.

“This event I also wish to thank our stakeholders and business houses who will be providing the necessary support and sponsorship towards the games. We appreciate your assistance.

“We are looking forward to the participation of our secondary schools across the country to come together in sports through the theme “Education, Health through Sport

“We are anticipating around 2000 plus students and officials from about 30 schools to showcase their talents in the spirit of unity and sportsmanship during the forthcoming event.

“I call on all our citizens to come out and support this enjoyable event,” Diamana added. 

A total of five sports namely, Athletics, Netball, 3×3 Basketball, Beach Volleyball and Rugby 7s competitions will be played during the SISSGs later this month.
