70 year old man arrested for molesting 6 year old niece

A 70 year old man has been arrested for incest committed on a six-year-old minor.
A Police statement said the offence occurred last Thursday in Niumala Village, Kohingo island in the Western Province.
It says the alleged suspect is a native of Samangago Village, in Shortland Islands but was living with his brother at Niumala when the incident occurred.
Provincial Police Commander for Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu said the alleged incident happened when the victim’s mother told her to look after her baby sibling while she prepares the baby’s dinner.
It was alleged the perpetrator called the victim over to him and sexually molested her when her mother re-entered the house and witnessed what happened.
The matter was then reported to Noro Police for investigation and the case was forwarded to Gizo Police for further remand application.
The Gizo Magistrate Court granted the remand application due to the gravity of the offence and the accused will appear in court on August 7th, for his trial.
