Allardyce PSS receives new girls’ dormitory and ablution block
Allardyce Provincial Secondary School in Isabel Province received a new girls’ dormitory and ablution block funded by the Australian and New Zealand governments in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) through the Education Sector Support Program (ESSP).
The SBD2.7 million infrastructure project, built by MY Construction, marks a significant milestone in improving access to a quality education for female students.
A handover ceremony on Thursday, 27 March 2025, demonstrated the collaboration and support from the partners in education in advancing educational opportunities in the Solomon Islands.
New Zealand High Acting Commissioner Rebecca Williams reaffirmed New Zealand’s ongoing commitment to supporting quality and inclusive education across Solomon Islands.
“The heart of learning is inside the school. This dormitory and ablution block will provide a safe space for girls to commit to their studies, with positive benefits for their mental and physical well-being.” New Zealand Acting High Commissioner Rebecca Williams emphasised.

The Australian High Commissioner expressed Australia’s commitment to supporting the Solomon Islands education sector.
“This education partnership reflects our shared values and commitment to delivering tangible benefits to all Solomon Islanders. By investing in education, we are investing in the future of young people – and young people are the future of this great nation,” Australian High Commissioner H.E. Rod Hilton said.
Hon. Leokana acknowledged the governments and the people of Australia and New Zealand for their continuous generosity and support to the education sector in Solomon Islands through the ESSP partnership.
“Allardyce currently has an enrolment of 303 students, comprising 177 girls and 162 boys. This growing number highlights the need for quality infrastructure to accommodate and support our students effectively.
“Education is the cornerstone of development, and for young girls, access to safe and secure accommodation is an essential factor in ensuring their continued learning.
“I extend my deepest gratitude to the governments of Australia and New Zealand for their generous funding and unwavering support in making this project possible. My Ministry is immensely grateful for this collaboration, which aligns with our national commitment to improving school infrastructure and creating better learning environments for our students,” Minister Leokana said.

The new facilities will enhance living and learning conditions for female students, promoting gender equity and enabling more girls to pursue their education in a safe and supportive environment.
The governments of Solomon Islands, Australia, and New Zealand continue to work together to improve access to quality basic education for all children in Solomon Islands.
