Australia’s Foreign Minister has today announced funding of 150-thousand Australian dollars for the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Sexual Assault Victim Support Centre.

Minister Julie Bishop announced the funding when she visited a Prevention of Gender-Based Violence workshop at the RAMSI base at the Guadalcanal Beach Resort in Honiara.

Minister Bishop also met with members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force working on cases involving violence against women and girls.

She said these renovations will include the construction of private interview and counselling rooms to provide privacy and confidentiality for people reporting abuse to officers at police stations ensuring victims seek help.

The Australian Foreign Minister adds through the renovations at Rove police headquarters there will be an emphasis on family and child friendly interview and counselling rooms, office space for staff and a separate interview room for offenders.

Minister Bishop explained this will provide an area where victims can feel comfortable knowing they can safely make a report to the Police, receive help and guidance and be treated with respect from a professional Police organisation.
