The People’s Republic of China has pledged to strengthen cooperation with the Solomon Islands in combating drug related crimes.
Deputy Commissioner of the Chinese Police Liaison Team (CPLT), Kang Guan, made the statement during an inquiry into the Dangerous Drug (Amendment) Bill 2025 this week.
He said the Chinese government is ready to enhance collaboration with the Solomon Islands in addressing drug related crimes.

This collaboration will focus on providing support for capacity building, law enforcement cooperation, and drug control governance.
Guan described the Dangerous Drug (Amendment) Bill 2025 as an important step in strengthening drug control.
“The Chinese Police Liaison Team supports the bill and stands ready to assist the Solomon Islands in its implementation and broader anti-drug initiatives.
“We welcome the opportunity to comment on the Dangerous Drug Amendment Bill 2025.
“Drawing on China’s experience in drug control and international cooperation practices, we support the establishment of a strong legal framework to combat transnational drug trafficking,” he said.
The CPLT Deputy Commissioner commented that the proposed increase in maximum penalties of the parent act is inline with international norms and China’s strict anti-drug policy.
He also commended the Solomon Islands Government for upgrading its drug control legislation.
