The Guadalcanal Civil Society Network describes the current status of the tailing dam in Central Guadalcanal as a threat for life and
property in Guadalcanal Plains.

Guadalcanal Civil Society Network made the statement after the reserve dam has started to overflow threatening people and their
livelihood.

Network representative Stanley Vutiade said, the situation now needs urgent action from the Guadalcanal Provincial Government, National Leaders and stakeholders.

“I think any possible action to be taken must be taken quickly in order to save the lives and property of those living downstream of the dam because this situation is life threatening as well as urgent and an emergency situation that really needs urgent action. An immediate action needs to be taken now and the stakeholders, involving the provincial government and Guadalcanal leaders have to wake up and see this situation.”
