Participants included students and teachers representing a range of cultural groups, including Marovo, Rendova, Roviana, Kolombangara, Shortland Islands, Ranongga, Vella, Choiseul, Eastern, and Kiribati.

In his remarks, the Western Provincial Government Tourism and Culture Officer, Kenneth Roga, emphasized the importance of students embracing and practicing their cultural heritage.

” Young people are faced with new influences. Modern technology, global threats, and social media often compete our attention. While this damage brings progress, they can also cause us to forget the customs and traditions that connect to our roots,” he said.

” That is why it is important as students to preserve and practice our cultural values. We learn to appreciate our heritage and respect the diversity of others. Our cultural values teach us to live in harmony, to honor our elders, and to uphold the dignity of our community.”

Meanwhile, School representative and principal, Richard Hiva, encouraged students to approach diversity with gratitude and a desire to understand others.

” Every culture expressed holds significance and tells a story. Yours is just as important as anyone else. As we forge ahead, let us make a conscious effort to embrace each other’s uniqueness beyond today.”

” May this cultural day inspire friendship, deeper understanding of one another, encouraging us to approach our differences with an attitude of gratitude.”
