A 40-women team from the Honiara Council of Women (MCW) is currently on a heart-driven community outreach tour across Malaita province, spreading empowerment and support to fellow women and the wider community.

Led by the president Annie Butafa, the team has visited key institutions including the Auki prison, Kiluúfi Hospital, Christian health center, where they provided life skills training and shared knowledge and encouragement with women in the area.

In an interview with SIBC News, Council President Butafa said the purpose of their tour is to work together with the Malaita Council of Women through knolwedge sharing.

“Our mission is simple. We are here just to give back to the community and uplift each other. I call on every woman in the country to come out and share what you have with other women,” said Butafa.

The team also paid an official visit to the Premier of Malaita Province, Hon. Elijah Asilaua to whom they extend their warm wishes and express their desire to share in the Malaita 42nd Second Appointed day.

President Butafa thanked the premier for his generous reception and extend their gratitude for their kindness and hospitality.

“We look forward to collaborate with other women across Solomon Islands and will continue to support all women in terms of livelihood trainings,” she added.

Meanwhile, Butafa said what makes the journey even more remarkable is that the entire trip is self-funded.

“There is no sponsor, our team worked tirelessly selling food and organizing fundraisers to cover our own travelling cost. It was a labor of love, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”

The Honiara Council of Women hopes the trip inspires more women across the Solomon Islands to rise, support one another, make lasting impacts in their communities-through their act of kindness.
