Local journalists and radio broadcasters have completed a Professional Etiquette and Interview Skills training in preparation for the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders’ Meeting next week.

The two-day training, organized by the Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) in partnership with the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS) and supported by the Australian Government, concluded yesterday.

Trainer, Richard Davies of PACMAS commended the journalists and broadcasters for their commitment during the intensive program.

He highlighted the importance of empowering Solomon Islands journalists to confidently represent the country and the people at the Leaders’ Forum Meeting.

Davies stated, “It’s crucial for them to understand that they are equals among other journalists. They play a vital role as the voice of the people of Solomon Islands and in holding leaders accountable.”

He added that the training focused on helping participants grasp the expectations regarding their appearance, presentation, and interactions with leaders.

Davies described the training as highly interactive, with participants engaging in practical exercises simulating scenarios they may encounter at the Forum.

He praised the participants for their initiative, creativity, and understanding of the objectives.

Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) President Ofani Eremae expressed his satisfaction with the training and thanked the trainers, Richard Davies from ABC, and Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) CEO, Johnson Honimae.

Meanwhile, Island Sun Editor Irwin Angiki described the workshop as empowering, reminding participants of their right to ask questions and provide comprehensive coverage of the upcoming meeting.

Participants at the training also received their certificate of attendance for successfully completing the program.
