Local journalists return home
By Lachlan Eddie
Local journalists have returned to Solomon Islands on Sunday after eight days (1-8 June 2025) of fruitful learning experiences in Australia.
The International Media Visit commenced in Canberra and concluded in Sydney before the eight journalists returned home to contribute to their newsrooms, what they learned during the international tour.
The participants were: Christopher Adifaka, (Barava FM), Lachlan Eddie (SIBC), Ruthina Koroa ( ZFM), Indy Maelasia (The Island Sun newspaper), Georgina Maka’a ( In-depth Solomons), Loretta Manele (The Island Sun newspaper), Ronald Toito’ona (In-depth Solomons), and Bradford Noda (Tavuli News).
The DFAT officers who accompanied the group are Mr. Samuel Cox from the Australian High Commission Office in Solomon Islands and Ms. Anjali Aiyer, Graduate Officer at DFAT.
The journalists thanked the Australian Governments’ Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for inviting them and providing informative roundtable discussions at their head office in Canberra, and for organizing visits to Australian media, business, academic sectors and cultural events.
The visit provided an opportunity for the journalists to strengthen the Solomon Islands-Australia Media Sector Partnership and to build connections for the future.
