A trough lying to the northwest of the country is influencing current weather conditions in Choiseul, Isabel, and Malaita provinces.

Despite of this, the country is currently experiencing generally a stable weather situation with provinces in the eastern part of the country still having clear skies with not many clouds.

Deputy Director of the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service, Eddie Maru, told SIBC News in an interview yesterday.

He confirmed that currently there are no warning in force and no low-pressure systems in the country’s waters which might cause cyclones to form.

However, Mr Maru cautions the public that the country is currently in the cyclone or wet season, a period that often brings heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas.

“Understandably, it is still the festive season and a lot of people will travel between our islands and provinces.

“Please, stay alert and be prepared. I urge you to exercise safety measures especially those who will be travelling and those living in low-lying and coastal areas, always put safety first because weather can change anytime.”

He further added that the country will expect a few showers towards the weekend as clouds is forecasted to cover whole of the country.

Meanwhile, Maru says the Weather Office will continue to closely monitor the situation throughout the cyclone season which is usually from November to April.

He encourages the public to regularly access official weather updates through MET Service Facebook page or via SIBC Radio to stay informed of any changes.
