The Ministry of National Unity Reconciliation and Peace has established a ‘breakthrough’ partnership with Solomon Islands churches.

The new relationship was announced recently by the Permanent Secretary for National Reconciliation, Peace and Unity Lennis Rukale.

In an interview, Mr Rukale says the partnership is a major breakthrough for the ministry and they have negotiated a memorandum of understanding which will soon be signed.

“Currently, we are partnering with the churches, so our partnership with the churches is a major breakthrough, we have negotiated a memorandum of understanding that is soon to be signed and by partnering with the churches we sort of have almost a 100 percent coverage because churches are everywhere in the Solomon Islands.”

The Permanent Secretary adds, Ministry’s long term plan is to outsource its work to the churches, saying peace building is part of a church mission.
