In a decisive move to stabilize the Central Islands Provincial government, Premier Michael Salini terminated two executive members on Wednesday, marking a significant shift in leadership.

The removed members are former Deputy Premier Hon. Dennis Akorea of Ward 11 and Hon. Elijah Taikole of Ward 3, the Minister of Lands, Forestry, Mines, and Energy. They were dismissed due to ongoing political instability within their ranks.

Following his action, Premier Salini then appointed David Manetiva, the Member for Ward 2 as the Deputy Premier and Minister of Education, and Hon. Percival Vaga’a, the Member for Central East Ngella as the new Minister for Lands, Forestry, and Mining.

Both members received and accepted their letters of appointment at the Premier’s Office, effective Friday, September 13, 2024.

Premier Salini stressed the need for unity among all Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), urging them to collaborate on critical issues related to development and investment.

“It’s time we put our ideas together and move our province forward. Continuous destabilization is detrimental to our government and our people,” he stated.

He called on all MPAs to focus on addressing the pressing challenges facing Central Islands Province, ensuring that the government meets the expectations of its citizens.

Premier Salini congratulated the two newly appointed MPs on their appointments this week and expressed hope for working together with the executive government for the betterment of Central Islands Province.

He looks forward to collaborating and delivering on the people’s desires in the province as his current leadership focuses on a new pathway.

Hon. Salini wishes the two MPs success in their new roles and looks forward to working closely with them and other executive and non-executive members over the next four years.
