Prime Minister calls on Solomon Islanders to stop smoking
The Solomon Islands Prime Minster has called on his countrymen to stop smoking and not wait for the Government to enforce its tobacco regulation.
Manasseh Sogavare made this point during his key note address at the World No Tobacco Day official launch yesterday.
Encouraging a concerted effort in the fight against tobacco and its use, the Prime Minister added smoking was a threat to development.
He said tobacco control began with the Government as much as an individual conviction.
“It is not only Governments who can step up the tobacco control effort, people can contribute on an individual level to making a sustainable tobacco free world,” the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Sogavare reminded smokers to think about tobacco related deaths and losses on families, communities and the nation.
