The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force will begin its crime free election operation this weekend.

Police commissioner Frank Prendergast says the operation will focus on reducing alcohol related criminal activities in Honiara City.

He says the operation will target liquor shops in Honiara.

“To help prepare for the election we’re conducting two operations over this weekend and next weekend which will be really focused on reducing anti-social behaviour around town and particularly alcohol-related issues, and so in the process of those operations we’ll be targetting liquor outlets and ensuring that their owners are abiding by the relevant legislation.”

Meanwhile, Commissioner Prendergast says the crime free election operation will involve Royal Solomon Islands Police Force and the Participating Police Force.

“We’ve been heavily preparing for the upcoming National General Election, which will involve both the RSIPF and PPF prior to and after the election. The RSIPF will be the lead agency for security for the election but will receive some very good support from the PPF over that period.”
