The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service has issued a Swell Advisory for atolls and low-lying islands.

The Met Service says a moderate swell advisory is in force for the low-lying coastal islands of Ontong Java and Sikaiana atolls, Dai, Ramos, Temotu and the Northern waters of Choiseul, Isabel, Malaita and Makira.

It says these islands will expect moderate Northerly swells of over three metres coming from the Northerly direction.

The Met Service adds there is potential for coastal inundation over the low-lying islands and atolls.

It warns mariners to also take precautionary measures as these swells can pose threats to lives and properties.

The Met Service advised people to listen to the National Broadcaster SIBC for further advice.
