The Solomon Islands Bar Association (SIBA) will become a fully regulated entity by the end of this legal year.

President of the Bar Association Katalaina Ziru informed legal practitioners and judicial staff at the legal year opening this morning.

Mrs. Ziru says the demandĀ for a complete and fully regulated profession by the bar, the bench, and all stakeholders are a matter of critical importance.

She says previously, the Government through the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs has driven all progress to achieve this.

But she said in December last year, they have established a legal profession sub-committee to progress the work.

She says SIBA will become a fully regulated entity by the end of this legal year.

“The sub-committee is already in close consultation with the Ministry of Justice and it is our intention and expectation that an act regulating lawyers, law practices and the Association will indeed be passed and implemented within this legal year. As President of SIBA, this work is of primary importance.”
