Solomon Islands launched the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign in Honiara yesterday.

The launch brought together women and girls representatives from government ministries, non-government organizations, faith-based organizations, and development partners.

This year’s theme, “Unite to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,” focused on preventing online violence against women and girls in Solomon Islands and around the world.

In her keynote address, Minister of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, Hon. Cathy Nori highlighted the need to end digital violence against women and girls.

“We must all act to stop digital abuse. To mark the 16 Days of Activism, the campaign calls on governments to pass and enforce laws that criminalize digital violence, protect personal information, and strengthen tech accountability.

“This includes requiring companies to ensure platform safety, remove harmful content, enforce codes of conduct, and publish transparent reports,” she said.

From November 25 to December 10, 2025, visible and bold activities will be organized to promote safety and justice online.

Partners include civil society, youth-led groups, academia, local governments and community leaders, the private sector, and all Solomon Islanders.

Meanwhile, Andrew Schoeffel, Deputy Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, said Australia stands with Solomon Islands to end violence against women and girls.

“Australia stands with Solomon Islands to stop gender-based violence,” he said.

In support of this effort, Australia has invested SBD300 million Solomon dollars in recent years for prevention programs, survivors’ services, women’s leadership, and women’s economic empowerment.

The 16 Days of Activism runs until December 10.
