Solomon Islands will join other countries in the world to commemorate World Leprosy Day this weekend.

The theme for this year’s World Leprosy Day is, “Joining Forces-Accelerating Progress.”

The Leprosy Advocacy Officer at the Ministry of Health, Oliver Mepela says, the commemoration of World Leprosy Day will start with a service on Sunday.

He says the Ministry will also carry out activities for the whole of next week to commemorate the event, including activities at identified leprosy hot spot areas.

“In the coming days we will do awareness programs at our hotspots in town. These hotspots are Jericho, Fishing Village and Lord Howe settlements. There are other hotspots but these are the targeted hotspots that we would like to do a leprosy awareness on the Leprosy Day”.

World Leprosy Day falls annually on January 26.
