Tandai highway road upgrade approaches completion
Road rehabilitation along the West Honiara/Tandai Highway is steadily progressing, with construction now focused on the Rove road stretch, one of the busiest corridors in the city.
The contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is completing asphalt paving on the landside section from Rove Bulk Shop to Rifle Range.
Once this section is finished, the team will shift to the seaside section, from Rove Good View Building to Rove Outback, next week.
The scope includes roadway excavation, subgrade preparation, placement of sub-base and base course materials, construction of bus bays, installation of curbstones and footpaths, prime coat application, and asphalt sealing.

It is scheduled for completion in early January 2026.
The contractor will also focus on construction of the Rove intersection roundabout and the public is urged to follow traffic instructions and exercise caution when passing through and beside active work zones.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), Allan Lilia, thanked road users for their patience during this phase.
“The West Honiara/Tandai Highway upgrade, under the road component of the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP), is a significant national investment. Once completed, it will greatly enhance transport efficiency, road safety, and connectivity in the capital.
We look forward to delivering a modern and durable road that will support Honiara’s growth for years to come.”
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development, through its Transport Infrastructure Management Services Division (TIMSD), continues to provide oversight during these phases.
LMCP is a collaboration by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Solomon Islands Government, and for the road component, it spans from White River to Honiara City Council Roundabout and from Henderson to Mberande-East Guadalcanal Highway.
The government remains committed to improving our city’s road infrastructure and appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during this transformative undertaking.
