The Solomon Islands U-16 team has started on a high note this afternoon in their OFC U-16 Championship 2018 campaign.

Today’s match saw futsal international Raphael Le’ai leading the home side three goals before the half time mark.

Their fellow Melanesians Papua New Guinea regrouped in the second 45 minutes putting pressure on the Solomon Islands defence but was unable to find the back of the net.

Drizzling showers over the Lawson Tama stadium in Honiara could not deter the two teams as they battle it out in the final 45 minutes.

Solomon Islands managed to secure its fifth and winning goal in the sixth minute into injury time when futsal young star Le’ai found the back of the net with a left footer.

With all five goals now under his belt, the U-16 boys team captain and his boys will take on reigning champions New Zealand in their second group match on Wednesday this week.

Their match kicks off at 3pm at the Lawson Tama stadium in Honiara.
