“Police have confirmed that four suspects have been arrested while two are still on the run.”
Search for the two suspects is continuing.
A reconciliation ceremony between the two parties was held at the Central Police station in Honiara this afternoon Monday 19 May, 2025.
Meanwhile the Makira Ulawa Provincial Council of women joins the immediate families, relatives, friends, youths, wantoks and Makira people to demand justice for the life of an innocent, promising future leader, the late Stephanus Wainamo who was brutally murdered over the weekend in Honiara.
“Stephanus, a former student of Waimapuru NSS who is destined to accomplish his dream of becoming a pilot, ready to do his studies in the Philippines ends his life journey over the weekend by some inhuman, selfish, greedy and thoughtless youths who brutally murdered him.
“We stand united with his mother and all mothers of Makira to demand justice for our beloved son.
“There is no future, no hope, no expectation any more. No graduation ceremonies, no garlanding, no celebrations. No, nothing is there for us mothers. It’s all wasted because of selfishness, greed and inhumanity,” the Council said in a statement.
The Council demanded justice to be prevailed in Law, cultures and custom.
It appeals to the National Government to seriously take steps to address issues involving illegal activities, engaging in stealing, kwaso, maruana by the youths who drifted into town, doing nothing.
“We also appeal to institutions like USP, SINU to provide a more conducive environment for study and safe residence for their students to avoid renting in unsafe areas in town.
“It’s time the four MP’s of Makira start pursuing a University to be built in Makira. Looking at Waimapuru Land space area can provide for both state school and University.
“We can’t sit back and watch our students struggling for Education in an unsafe environment like Honiara. So it’s time to act for the rights of the future of Makira Children in Education,” the statement said.
