Prime Minister clarifies concerns around Special Economic Zone
The Prime Minister, Hon. Jeremiah Manele, through the Press Secretariat, acknowledges the concerns expressed by Solomon Islanders regarding recent reports about the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and related agreements.
The Prime Minister wishes to inform people that no Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or agreement related to the SEZ has been signed by him.
While he met with representatives from SI Group earlier this year, no formal agreements were finalized during that engagement.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the processes and steps foreigners need to follow if they wish to invest in Solomon Islands.
The Government remains firmly committed to observing all required procedures, including securing approvals from Caucus and Cabinet before any formal commitments or agreements concerning the SEZ are made.
Any agreements signed prior to these approvals are preliminary and should not be regarded as officially endorsed by the Government.
“The SEZ initiative will continue to be developed transparently, in the best interests of the Solomon Islands and its people, respecting our sovereignty and the rule of law,” the Prime Minister said.
