CBSI reaffirms support for women
By Lachlan Eddie
The Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) has reaffirmed its support for women under its Financial Inclusion Policy, which is already being implemented to support women entrepreneurs.
CBSI Governor Dr. Luke Forau highlighted this when he delivered his speech at the inaugural South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Businesswomen of the Year Awards held at the St. Barnabas Cathedral Hall in Honiara on Friday.
“As we celebrate today, let us reaffirm our commitment to support women, ensuring they have equitable access to opportunities.
“Let us pledge to maintain an environment where women can flourish, contribute, and shape their destinies without limitations. As someone who is passionate about financial inclusion, the Central Bank of Solomon Islands will continue to champion financial inclusion in Solomon Islands.
“The Central Bank recognizes the importance of having a financially inclusive society. In doing so, some of the things that we implement, like policies and initiatives, aim at creating an enabling environment that supports women entrepreneurs. For example, we have already implemented the Women’s Financial Inclusion Policy for Solomon Islands,” he said.

Dr. Forau revealed that Solomon Islands is the first in the region to develop a Women’s Financial Inclusion Policy.
“These efforts have facilitated greater access to financial services for women, ensuring they can participate fully in economic activities. And in fact, our collaboration with the Government through the Ministry of Women is why we have come this far,” Dr. Forau said.
He added that by prioritizing financial education and advocating for the expansion of microfinance services, the Central Bank is contributing to empowering women to engage in business ventures confidently, thus reinforcing the broader financial ecosystem.
The CBSI Governor also acknowledged the Solomon Islands Government for supporting this Financial Inclusion Policy.
