The Lau Baelelea Constituency (LBC) office, led by Honorable Ben Maenu’u, proudly handed over fiberglass paddle canoes valued at $400,000 SBD to constituents residing in Honiara recently.

Each Canoe, costing $7,500, serves as a vital lifeline for many LBC families who rely on fishing for their daily income.

Fishermen at Maromaro Market and roadside fish stalls, who venture out daily to provide for their families, expressed their gratitude through their team leader, Peter Hare.

“This is the first time we have received support from LBC,” Hare said.

He said the canoes will enable them to generate sustainable income, particularly in a time when cost of living remains high.

Meanwhile, Hon. Maenu’u emphasized his commitment to addressing the needs of his constituents.

“As our country welcomes international leaders, it is equally important that our struggling communities receive support.”

Hon. Maenu’u said these fishermen are key contributors to Honiara’s food security.

“I assured my constituents that more projects are coming, and they will be delivered on time,” he stated.

After the handover, recipients paddled their new canoe home, and some even began fishing immediately, ready to transform their livelihoods.
