The Government of Solomon Islands, in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), officially launched the Strengthening Inclusive Adaptation Capacity in Solomon Islands (SIAC-SI) project yesterday.

The project aims to enhance the country’s adaptation planning and response capabilities, culminating in the development and implementation of the Solomon Islands’ inaugural National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

During the launch, the Minister for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management, and Meteorology, Hon. Polycarp Paea, underscored the project as a commitment between current and future generations.

He emphasized the Solomon Islands resolve to move beyond merely coping with climate change.

Minister Paea also acknowledged the Australian Government’s leadership and commitment, along with GGGI’s technical assistance in executing the initiative.

He noted that the SIAC-SI project aligns with key national and sectoral strategies, including the national development strategy, the national climate change policy 2023-2032, and the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

He highlighted the progress in climate vulnerability and risk assessments, emphasizing that these foundational deliverables under the NAP process will provide crucial data to guide adaptation efforts, ensuring that all provinces and communities are included.

Australian High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, H.E. Rod Hilton, affirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting the Solomon Islands in achieving low-emission, climate-resilient development.

He stated that the partnership reflects a shared dedication to building a resilient, secure, and sustainable Solomon Islands, while also recognizing the country’s regional leadership in addressing climate change impacts and implementing practical adaptation solutions.
